Digital volume tomography (DVT)
Early bone structures of the skull were usually investigated with computed tomography (CT). Nowadays DVT devices are more frequently used for a 3-dimensional representation of the jawbone and teeth. The latest generation of DVT has a much lower x-ray exposure. Our unit, Pax i3D® company Orange Dental, is one of the lowest radiation-emitting devices on the market. After 5.9 seconds of rotation time, the bony structures and teeth are 3-dimensionally represented in very good quality. Among the indications for this examination DVT are:
- Representation of bone tumors, cysts, bone inflammation
- Representation of the spatial position between the mandibular canal and the wisdom tooth to risk assessment and surgical preparation for wisdom teeth removal
- Exact representation of the amount of bone before placing a dental implant
- Changes in tooth roots in present clinical abnormalities that cannot be represented in conventional radiographs
- Diagnosis of bony disorders of the temporomandibular joint
- Diagnosis and surgical planning for complex malformations
- Maxillary sinus diseases
- Root fractures, alveolar process, under / upper jaw fractures
- Computer-assisted planning in implantology
- Differential diagnostic evaluation of tooth eruption disturbances
After examination, the referring physician receives a USB stick with the CBCT images and a viewer to upload the images, in addition to the findings and screenshots of the main areas.
