Tumor surgery

An important focus of our practice is the detection of oral lesions, and the treatment of malignant tumors of the mouth, jaw and face (oral cavity cancer). During my time at the University of Zurich I also worked as a visiting physician in one of the largest centers for head and neck tumors in Europe (Liverpool, Prof. James Brown). During my time as a senior physician at the University Hospital Zurich, my research focus and treatment specialty was the removal of malignant oral lesions, including reconstruction.

We use the most modern methods to arrive at a diagnosis. A standard component of our practice is the development of a 3-dimensional computer-aided design for the removal of bone tumors, as well as for reconstruction of facial defects. We work closely with relevant specialized pathologists and radiologists (MRI, PET CT).

Whenever possible, direct reconstruction is planned after the removal of the tumor. For each operation that we perform, our goal is to achieve long-term survival and quality of life.

Reconstruction after tumor removal is usually achieved with autologous bone and can be accomplished with modern methods (via virtual 3-dimensional planning). The aim, in any case, is the shortest possible operation and shortest possible recovery time.

Treatment decisions are made according to international standards and recognized treatment guidelines. An interdisciplinary panel of expert specialists (the so-called. Tumor Board, consisting of oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists ...) is consultant prior to planning therapy with the patient.

Stationary operations depend on the relevant insurance status of the patient in the Klinik Hirslanden, Zurich, or at the Kantonsspital Winterthur.

The complete tumor control is generally carried out in our practice
